The planting hole width is specified as three times the width of the rootball, while the depth equals the depth of the rootball. The top of the rootball sits one and a half inches higher than the surrounding finish grade. Amended backfill is placed around the rootball and heavily watered to reduce air pockets. A soil ring is formed around the perimeter to retain moisture.
