The root ball is set with its top two inches above finish grade inside a plant pit featuring angled sides and a sloped bottom with roughened surfaces. Amended backfill fills the pit around the root ball, and an optional auger hole is provided below as specified. Two tree stakes are driven into undisturbed soil outside the root ball and secured to the tree using a continuous flexible strap tie fastened with roofing nails. Mulch is applied starting three inches away from the stem and tapered to a three-inch depth while keeping the trunk flare visible above the mulch layer.
