A tree planting assembly is positioned directly over a structural slab and waterproofing assembly. The rootball is set with its crown two inches above the finish grade, with burlap and straps removed from the top half and fertilizer tablets embedded in the root zone. A lightweight soil mix is compacted to provide a firm base over the structural slab, maintaining a thirty-inch minimum depth at trees. A four-by-four untreated wood deadman is embedded at the bottom of the planting area to serve as a guy wire tie-down. Three-sixteenth-inch galvanized steel tensioning cables with ratchet tensioners or turnbuckles secure the tree to the deadman, stabilized by two-by-four untreated wood triangles nailed with three eight-penny common nails at each corner. Finish grade mulch is applied at a two-inch minimum depth and kept two inches clear from the trunk.
