Brick pavers are laid over a three-quarter-inch mortar bed resting on a four-inch concrete slab. The concrete substrate is reinforced with number three rebar at two feet on center in both directions, centered in the slab. Below the slab sits a six-inch class two aggregate base over subgrade. An expansion joint with caulk and backer rod is included, with a maximum square footage between expansion joints of two hundred to two hundred fifty square feet. A slip dowel spans the joint within the concrete slab, and three-eighth-inch natural gray grout joints are flush with the brick pavers.
