An asphalt concrete running track with synthetic track surfacing bears on compacted subgrade. A cast-in-place concrete curb retains the track edge and includes two continuous number four reinforcing bars, breaking at expansion joints at a maximum of thirty feet with appropriate dowels. The finish grade is held below the synthetic track material per the grading plan.
