The shrub is set with the top of the root ball two inches above the finish grade inside a plant pit featuring angled sides. The pit width is specified at two times the diameter of the root ball and sits atop undisturbed soil. Amended backfill is placed around the root ball with embedded fertilizer tablets. A three-inch minimum layer of mulch covers the planting bed up to the root flare.
