Perennials are installed into a two-foot deep planting soil type two bed. The root mass is set one inch above the finished grade to ensure proper drainage. A three-inch layer of type two rock mulch is applied over the surface, pulled away from the base of each plant to prevent rotting. The bottom and sides of the planting hole are scarified prior to installation, with care taken to protect existing tree roots from disturbance. The planting bed sits atop undisturbed soil or compacted subgrade, with finished grade elevations determined by the grading plan.
