A one-half-inch thick by three-inch wide horizontal flat bar cap sits atop the assembly, welded to a three-eighths-inch thick by two-inch wide steel flat bar attachment plate. A three-eighths-inch thick by two-inch wide stiffener is placed typically with the fabricator determining quantity and necessity. Stainless steel rods of three-eighths-inch diameter and one-eighth-inch stainless steel cables with attachments run through the stanchion typically. The guardrail stanchion attachment connects to Retaining Wall Type 1, which features controlled vertical joints at every double stanchion typically. Trowel sack and smooth finishes are applied to all visible surfaces of Retaining Wall Type 1. Guardrails are painted only with color per RAL, and the contractor provides RAL color chips for final approval.
