The tree is set into a plant pit with angled sides excavated at twice the width of the root ball into undisturbed soil. The top of the root ball is positioned two inches above the finish grade. Amended backfill surrounds the root ball up to the finish grade. A layer of mulch is applied over the backfill and held back three inches from the base of the trunk.
