An underground irrigation pipe is bedded in backfill sand material with control wiring positioned at the trench bottom and given a minimum of three inches of clearance. A detectable marking tape is installed six inches above the mainline or lateral line, which is buried at a minimum depth of eighteen inches for lateral lines and twenty-four inches for mainlines. The trench is then backfilled with native backfill material up to the finish grade below the planting topsoil. All parallel irrigation lines in the same trench maintain a minimum three-inch clearance, and all sleeves extend a minimum of one foot beyond the limits of paving.
