This trench detail shows a minimum twenty-one-inch trench width required to allow for compaction to ninety-five percent aggregate base. A mainline or lateral line sits at the bottom of the trench with a minimum eighteen-inch cover, accompanied by a separate conduit for control wires in its own sleeve sized as needed. The pipe sleeve must be sized at two times the diameter of the pipe. Above the utility lines, the trench is filled with compacted backfill, topped by an aggregate base course, and finished with new pavement.
