A soft surface trail is constructed with four inches of minimum compacted native soil base, finished with five-eighths inch minus crushed stone surfacing. The trail width is determined per plan and features a two percent cross pitch for drainage. Finished grade is pitched away from the slope typically, with mulch tapered to the edge.
