Two structural steel wide-flange beams align end-to-end with a one-half-inch maximum gap between their ends. A steel shim plate sits on the flat beam and supporting girder, one-half-inch wider than the moment gap. One-half-inch thick flange splice plates attach to the top and bottom flanges using eight bolts per plate, similar to the collector plate. Plates on each side of the web are sized per the collector plate detail. Slip-critical bolts secure the web and flange plates according to the collector detail.
