The evergreen tree is installed plumb with the top of the rootball positioned one to two inches above finished grade and the root flare exposed. The rootball rests on undisturbed subsoil with the wire basket cut and burlap removed from the top one-third of the rootball. The planting hole is excavated to a diameter three times wider than the rootball and backfilled with planting soil mix. A five-foot diameter depressed watering basin surrounds the tree, topped with mulch of specified type and depth, keeping mulch at least four inches away from the tree trunk. A guying and staking system with safety flagging PVC sleeves provides structural support, anchored into the undisturbed subgrade.
