A tree rootball is surrounded by planting soil and amended subgrade, bounded by a concrete curb. A four-inch layer of crushed stone is laid in two equal lifts and hand rolled over the rootball without machine compaction or binder. Cast-in-place concrete is adjacent to the crushed stone layer.
