A doweled construction joint and a sawcut control joint are installed in a concrete slab-on-grade assembly. The doweled construction joint connects Pour A and Pour B with a smooth dowel bar passing through the vertical joint face to allow horizontal movement while providing load transfer. A sealant-filled sawcut control joint is formed in the slab surface to accommodate shrinkage cracking. The concrete slab rests on a compacted aggregate base course and subgrade.
