A quarter-inch by six-inch commercial steel edging with a black powder coating finish rests on undisturbed or compacted sub-grade. Soil is removed as needed for installation, and a hand compactor compresses the soil around the base of the edging to ninety percent compaction on each side. Four minimum-sixteen-inch-long stakes secure each ten-foot section, with stakes placed at both ends. Weed barrier fabric extends beneath the mulch layer, which is held down one-half inch from the top of the steel edging.
