Proper installation method for shrubs, centering the plant plumb in a prepared planting pit three times the rootball width. The top of the rootball sits one inch above finished grade, surrounded by a four-inch high firmly compacted soil berm and a two-to-three-inch layer of mulch kept three inches clear of the trunk. Fertilizer tablets are placed a maximum of three inches deep within the prepared backfill, and the bottom and sides of the planting pit are scarified into undisturbed native soil. An adjacent section details a weed barrier fabric with a half-inch clearance and three-inch depth wood bark mulch abutting an adjacent hardscape edge.
