Concrete pavement bears upon a compacted aggregate base adjacent to a vertical building or structure surface. A one-half-inch expansion joint filler separates the concrete slab from the vertical surface for the full depth of the pavement. A backer rod sits in the joint opening one-quarter inch below the top of the concrete, sealed with sanded joint sealant.
