A five-eighth inch by eight-foot copper grounding rod is driven into the earth below finished grade and pavement. A grounding rod clamp connects a number six American Wire Gauge bare copper wire to the top of the rod. The connection and upper portion of the rod are housed within a ten-inch round valve box with a locking lid, set over a three-inch minimum depth of three-quarter-inch washed gravel. The bare copper wire extends underground at a twenty-four-inch minimum wire depth to a one-inch polyvinyl chloride electrical conduit and sweep for earth ground.
