An eighteen-gauge four-inch metal stud frame drops from the overhead structure to form a stepped transition to an acoustical ceiling system. The gypsum board wall framing is finished with a corner bead at the vertical change in plane. A furring channel and main runner are secured to the ledger with number ten sheet metal screws on each side. A four-inch stud brace at forty-five degrees and four feet on center ties the drop framing back for lateral stability. Acoustical ceiling trim finishes the transition edge adjacent to the drop ceiling panels.
