A pipe or conduit penetrates a sound-rated partition constructed with acoustical insulation and scheduled wall panels. An annular space of one-quarter inch is provided around pipes and conduits under three inches in diameter, while penetrations three inches or greater receive a one-inch space packed with safing batt insulation and a foam backer rod. Acoustical sealant is applied at both sides of the penetration to maintain the acoustic integrity of the assembly. Blocking is provided above penetrations as required, and insulation is interrupted outside the penetrated services.
