A motorized window shade is mounted directly to the underside of a one-hour rated soffit assembly. The shade hem bar is positioned to sit above the finished ceiling level when fully retracted. Framing includes a scheduled partition with five-eighths inch cement board and wood blocking supporting a ceiling closure piece. A custom felt-finished closure trim aligns with the adjacent ceiling and maintains a maximum two-inch and minimum one-inch clearance.
