A recessed equipment cabinet or panel is installed within a double-stud wood or metal partition wall with a minimum 1-inch clearance space filled with batt insulation. The rough opening is framed with double studs on all sides to support the recessed unit. The interior of the recess is lined on the top, bottom, back, and sides with a single layer of 5/8-inch gypsum board. Acoustical sealant is applied typically at joints to maintain the sound-rated performance of the partition assembly. This detail is applicable at all sound-rated construction, including interior insulated assemblies.
