An ultrasonic level sensor is flange-mounted to a day tank with specific positioning constraints. The maximum liquid level must remain outside the sensor blocking distance, and the lower edge of the sensor must project into the tank. The sensor face is mounted parallel to the liquid surface while offset from the tank centerline at a ratio of one foot from the sidewall for every twenty feet of tank height. The connecting cable must not be utilized as a suspension or supporting wire.
