A steel air duct passes through a wall assembly consisting of steel studs and gypsum board. A layer of duct insulation wraps the exterior of the steel air duct. The annular space between the insulated duct and the wall opening is sealed with a firestop system comprising a wrap strip and fill, void, or cavity material such as caulk or sealant bearing the UL classification marking for a one and two hour F rating and three-quarter and two hour T rating.
