About this detail

A UL-classified through-penetration firestop system for nonmetallic piping passes through a stud and gypsum board wall assembly. The wall assembly consists of framing studs faced with gypsum board layers on both sides. Through-penetrants include polyvinyl chloride pipe, rigid nonmetallic conduit, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride pipe, cellular core polyvinyl chloride pipe, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene pipe, and cellular core acrylonitrile butadiene styrene pipe. The firestop system incorporates wrap strip, caulk, sealant or putty, and foil tape applied around the penetrant annulus. Ratings include F ratings of 1 and 2 hours, T ratings of 0, 3/4, and 2 hours, and ambient and 400-degree Fahrenheit L ratings of less than 1 CFM per square foot.
