Protruding objects maintain a minimum clear width when located greater than twenty-seven inches above the finished floor or finished ground, with a maximum four-inch projection allowed for objects at or below twenty-seven inches. Handrails are permitted to extend four and one-half inches into the circulation path per 2022 CBC Section 11B-307.2. Protruding elements must not reduce the required clear width of an accessible route or maneuvering space.
