A chlorinated polyvinyl chloride pipe penetrates a framed gypsum board wall assembly with an annular space sealed by a fill, void, or cavity material. The wall assembly consists of framing studs faced with gypsum board layers on both sides. The annular gap surrounding the penetrant is sealed with a firestop sealant applied at the wall surfaces to achieve specified fire and air leakage ratings. The assembly conforms to UL System No. W-L-2377 for fire-rated wall penetrations.
