A steel duct penetrates a wall assembly composed of studs and gypsum board up to a maximum size of 100 inches by 100 inches. The annular space around the duct is packed with mineral wool, batt insulation, or fiberglass packing material. Firestop sealant is applied to a five-eighths inch depth on both sides of the assembly against steel angles. The penetration achieves a one and two-hour F-rating and a one-half hour T-rating.
