Accessibility door requirements specify a lever or U-shaped handle mounted thirty-six to forty-two inches above the finished floor, operable with a maximum force of eight and a half pounds for exterior doors and five pounds for interiors. The door features a minimum twelve-inch bottom rail or a kick plate providing a ten-inch high smooth surface at the bottom. A rubber bumper is mounted on the wheelchair to protect the door assembly during operation.
