A stainless steel grab bar mounts to a wall assembly with a metal backing plate. The grab bar has an outside diameter between one and one-quarter inches and one and one-half inches, positioned to maintain a one and one-half inch clearance from the finished wall surface. Four number ten self-tapping sheet metal screws secure the mounting flange through the finish material into the concealed metal backing plate. A stainless steel escutcheon conceals the mounting fasteners at the wall junction. The top of the gripping surface is located between thirty-three and thirty-six inches above the finished floor.
