An existing open web steel joist support connection is strengthened with a new 3/8-inch plate added under the horizontal leg of the continuous support angle and the joist top chord flange. Fillet welds of 5/16-inch secure the plate to the continuous angle and the joist top chord typically. An existing diagonal wide flange beam and metal deck above frame into the structural system, with additional support provided via a skewed beam-to-beam connection utilizing a bolted shear tab.
