A smoke detector base mounts directly to a drop ceiling tile supported by a T-bar type hanger. Flexible conduit containing fire detection circuits routes wiring from the ceiling junction box to a junction box mounted above the ceiling tile. A minimum 19 mm electrical metallic tubing conduit feeds the upper junction box.
