Two W12X35 steel beams connect end-to-end with a full-depth shear tab on the web secured by four 7/8-inch diameter A325N bolts on three sides. A bottom plate measuring 1-1/2 inches by 6-1/2 inches by 2 feet 0-1/2 inches spans across the bottom flanges, fastened with four 7/8-inch diameter A325N bolts on each side. Where the moment connection occurs over a column, the bottom plate welds to the column with stiffeners added per detail C3. A section view shows the placement of the bottom plate and bolts relative to the beam flanges.
