A typical wet-pipe sprinkler riser assembly connects to a water supply from fire pumps. The main feed line is supported by pipe stands per NFPA 13 and feeds into a normally open control valve followed by a riser check valve. A main drain with a normally closed ball valve is positioned near the base. Further up the vertical pipe, a vane-type waterflow switch and a fire department connection are installed downstream of the riser check valve. An inspector's test connection is mounted near the top of the riser.
