This structural detail provides standard rebar placement instructions for steps in a concrete slab, distinguishing between steps less than or greater than half the slab depth (D/2). Where the step is less than D/2, the top slab reinforcement hooks at the step with a class B lap splice, and the bottom bar is hooked. Where the step is greater than D/2, additional number four continuous bars are provided at the step, with top and bottom reinforcement properly hooked and developed. Additional number four bars spaced at twelve inches on center are added if top slab reinforcement is absent, with a three-foot minimum lap length. The larger bar must be developed with a hook of two feet minimum length.
