A 1-inch schedule 40 brace pipe is set at a 45 to 59 degree angle to restrain sprinkler piping against longitudinal seismic loads. The brace connects to the sprinkler pipe using a Tolco Fig. 4L sway brace horizontal clamp fitting. The upper end secures to a structural wood member a minimum of 4 inches wide via a Tolco Fig. 980 sway brace attachment fitting and a 3/4-inch through-bolt. A metal plate washer is installed between the wood member and the bolt head in compliance with NDS 12.1.3.3. Clamp and attachment fittings are tightened until the bolt head bottoms out.
