An existing one and one-half inch metal deck bears over an existing wide flange beam and open web steel joist. A new three-inch by three-inch by one-quarter-inch angle is attached to each side of the existing open web steel joist using three three-quarter-inch diameter bolts with two and one-half-inch square steel shims at one foot six inches on center. A three-quarter-inch diameter steel rod is anchored to each side of the existing open web steel joist. Number twelve self-tapping metal screws fasten at each down flute of the existing metal deck. Existing fireproofing on the deck and steel framing is removed as required for the new angle and connection, and then repaired afterward.
