The sensing line requires not less than one-half inch brass pipe with brass fittings or equivalent connected to the discharge outlet prior to the discharge shutoff valve. The arrangement incorporates a bronze check valve with a three-thirty-second inch orifice in the clapper, or alternatively ground face unions with noncorrosive diaphragms drilled for three-thirty-second inch orifices if the water is clean. Globe valves and plugs are positioned at the gauge, fire pump controller, and pressure switch connections with a minimum separation of five feet. A supplemental air chamber or pulsation damper may be added if water pulsation causes erratic operation of the pressure switch or recorder.
