A fire protection branch line is restrained against seismic loads by a sway brace attached to an overhead steel I-beam. The structural attachment consists of a universal sway brace attachment clamped to the bottom flange of the I-beam, connecting via a swivel sway brace fitting to a brace pipe set at an angle between forty-five and ninety degrees. The lower end of the brace pipe connects to a sway brace attachment clamping a maximum two-inch fire sprinkler pipe in accordance with NFPA 13 requirements.
