Steel bar joists bear on a steel beam with a 6-inch wood nailer matching the beam flange width, fastened using 7/8-inch diameter wood screws at 12 inches on center, staggered with a 1-inch maximum dap. Angle braces measuring 3 inches by 3 inches by 1/4 inch are welded to each joist with 3/16-inch fillet welds and connected to the steel beam with 1/4-inch fillet welds. Angle braces are welded to the beam after the roof is installed, and their locations are coordinated with sprinkler pipes. The braces must not be located further than 6 inches from the top chord panel point unless an auxiliary web is installed.
