A cable-suspended lighting fixture is laterally restrained against seismic forces using a thirty-two-inch aircraft cable running parallel to the fixture length, secured with Griplock systems model CC-UNICROSS and model CT-M13-1420 with one-quarter-inch internal thread and cap. One-sixteenth-inch aircraft suspension cables support the fixture vertically via cable gliders. The sway cables anchor horizontally on both sides to metal blocking and backing within stud walls using one-quarter-inch diameter sheet metal screws. Contractors must install these restraints whenever a suspended light fixture's distance to the nearest permanent object is less than 0.707 of the total suspension cable length.
