A vertical construction joint occurs between sequential shotcrete placements against an existing concrete wall. The interface requires the surface of the first shotcrete placement to be roughened to a one-quarter-inch minimum amplitude and cleaned of all rebound and reinforcement. The second shotcrete placement laps past the joint interface with a minimum offset of half the wall thickness ('t'/2 min). Reinforcing bars continue through the joint zone with hooked dowels embedded into the existing concrete wall.
