A number 3/0 AWG bare copper conductor serves as the grounding electrode embedded directly within a concrete foundation in direct contact with the earth for a minimum length of twenty feet. The horizontal portion of the conductor maintains a two-inch minimum clearance from the bottom of the footing. A nonmetallic protective sleeve surrounds the conductor where it transitions through the concrete surface. An exothermic weld connects the grounding electrode to the vertical grounding electrode conductor extending upward.
