The recessed luminaire hangs independently of the acoustical ceiling grid via number nine steel suspension wires attached to the structure above at a minimum of two opposite corners. Adjustable bar hangers spanning between ceiling beams secure the luminaire to the ceiling grid. A flexible fixture whip extending from a junction box provides electrical power at a maximum length of six feet. The ceiling system comprises standard acoustical ceiling tiles supported by a metal grid of cross beams and main runners.
