The trench is excavated to a minimum width of 12 inches, with a smooth bottom prepared by removing stones larger than 1 inch or other damaging matter. Conduits are installed with a minimum of 3 inches of bedding sand or flowable fill around each, and a 6-inch wide red detectable marking tape is placed 6 inches above the conduit bank. The trench is backfilled with imported 3/4-inch maximum diameter granular material, compacted to a depth of 3 feet. An 8-inch thick layer of Grade 1 Untreated Base Course (UTBC) 02206 is placed above the backfill. The surface is finished with a 7-inch thick bituminous surface course (AC-10, DM-3/4 Class IV). Existing asphalt edges are sawcut to a minimum depth of 8 inches and treated with an SS-1 tack coat before the joint is sealed with Craft-Co 210 joint sealant.
