At earth conditions, the top of the manhole is set two to four inches above the surrounding grade. At paving or sidewalks, the top of the manhole is set flush with the finished surface. An embedded thirty-six-inch diameter top flange supports the frame and manhole cover. An exterior coating is applied to the exterior concrete wall, and a ladder tie-off is embedded inside.
