The lightning protection down conductor passes through the roof assembly via a through-roof sleeve and connector, with the roof penetration sealed by the roofing contractor. The conductor routes down the face of the structural steel column, protected by one-inch schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride conduit. The conduit secures to the steel column using two stainless steel self-tapping screws at each mounting location. The down conductor bonds to the cleaned bare metal surface of the steel column at the top and bottom of the run using cast bronze eight-square-inch bonding plates. At the base, the conductor exits the column area through a sleeve and seal provided by the general contractor before continuing to the ground system connection.
