A typical pipe or conduit penetrates a fire-rated wall or floor assembly with a two-hour fire rating in accordance with Hilti UL System No. CAJ1149. The annular space around the penetrating item is packed in the center two-thirds with stuffed ceramic fiber insulation and sealed at the exterior faces with a one-half-inch depth of Hilti FS-One intumescent firestop sealant. All electrical conduits penetrating fire-rated barriers must be sealed in a smoke-tight manner using compatible sealant materials matching the assembly rating.
